We enjoyed a fabulous week with the sweetest group of campers, baking recipes from Latin America, Germany, France, and Austria!
After coming up with team names, we began our Baking Around the World journey in Latin America, where we made Conchas (a sweet Mexican bread) and Tres Leches Cakes (three-milk cake).
Each baker used cinnamon and color to decorate their Conchas and created designs on their cakes with cinnamon and fresh fruit.
Lunch is always a favorite part of the day, even for our counselors! Another favorite part is getting to choose prizes! These kiddos were one of our most helpful groups of campers. They swept, organized, washed dishes, helped each other, wrapped baked goods, and were continually asking Ms. Bethany and all the counselors how they could help!
On Day 2 we were off to Germany! We made a totally different type of dough for our Apple Strudel, and Chef Christopher showed us how to slice the apples quickly and roll our strudel.
Oui, oui for Day 3! All our campers showed up in French style when we traveled to France. We began making Macarons by sifting, and sifting, and sifting — the counselors even had a sifting competition! Sometimes we just have to dance, too!
Other times intense attention and concentration is necessary in baking. Macarons are notoriously tricky to perfect. Each camper got to choose their own colors and filling to create macarons that were both beautiful and delicious!
Our last stop was Austria where we sang like the Von Trapps and exercised with Arnold! We made a very buttery dough for our Linzer Torte. Using raspberry or strawberry jam each camper filled their crust and designed their own topping. There were so many beautiful creations!
We had a special lunch in Austria, which included tater tots from our counselor Tate, who the campers nicknamed Tater Tot! Then we made Austrian cookies and ate ice cream that Chef Christopher made using liquid nitrogen!
It was a delicious week full of such sweet memories! We couldn’t have dreamed up a better group of kiddos to share it with!!
